A LITTLE BIT ABOUT HOMEMADE QUILTS by THE PATCHWORK PORCH The Patchwork Porch is a home based business of one. No factories or fancy industrial machines, just a mom with her sewing machines, needles, and fabrics. The Porch is about 4 years old and going strong. I am a military spouse and mother of two. Everything on this site is made by one person, me. I am not a professional quilter, painter or crafter, but I love doing it. I am very fortunate that my husband's work affords me to stay home and do what is really important; raising two kids in a loving home. Staying home also affords me the oppourtunity to learn crafts. I started quilting because we always ended up some place cold, perfect for having homemade quilts around. I think that too many people think that quilting is for "Old Ladies", but I would venture to bet, that they were not always "old", nor did they all pick it up after they hit 60 years young either. It is a dying art, and I hope that the younger generations will learn to appreciate quilting and crafting the way our mothers and grandmothers did. By decorating your home with homemade quilts, who knows, you may inspire others to take notice of them and treasure them with the same love that they were made with. Some of the most treasured items I have are the homemade quilts that were made for my kids by Great-Grandmothers and Grandmothers. (If you couldn't tell, I love homemade quilts & quilting)
Everything I make I put my heart and soul into. I make homemade quilts, because I enjoy doing it. The things I sell are made with the same care as the things I make for my own family. I started this site so that others could feel home the way I feel it. Homemade quilts give me that feeling of home. We are a military family and move more than most. Military housing is nice, but it isn't home the way I remember it. Having homemade quilts and crafts around, makes the cookie cutter housing feel a bit more like home for myself and my children. Once I hang or snuggle my first homemade quilt at the new place, I instantly feel welcomed, and hope that my guests feel the same way.
I hope that through this site I can share that feeling with others through homemade quilts. I believe a room without a homemade quilt in it, isn't a room I want to spend time in. Quilts are not just for the bed.All my homemade quilts & homemade quilted items have been pre-washed. Some have been made to look worn and aged to have a rustic or primitive appearance, but none of them have been used. I assure you, I do not use any of the homemade quilts I sell here. However, they are on display to keep from storing them folded. They are all new fabrics and made for sell. The same with the craft products. Some may appear aged, but I promise you that is done on purpose and not from use. Since all the products are hand crafted and painted, they are unique. Homemade quilts are not perfectly uniform. Even the sets: no two items are exactly alike. There are also "beauty marks" unique to each homemade quilt. Some may see these as flaws, but I see them as the individual character of a homemade quilt. If perfection is what you are looking for, a hand crafted product/homemade quilt may not be right for you. There are many lovely and reasonably priced mass produced products that can give you a more perfect and uniform appearance. (Of course they can not offer you the care and love that go into a homemade quilt.) If however, you want a unique product, that was created with love and reminds you of "the good ole days", then you have come to the right place.

~~~FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS~~~
What is the shipping and handling charges? TOP I do not charge a handling charge. Shipping is as close to true charges as I could get it. Shipping is charged based on weight for USPS Priority service. The smaller items that can fit into an envelope or large flat envelope have been marked FREE SHIPPING. It seems a shame for you to pay full shipping cost for the smaller items, so I have figured shipping into the price so you save on unnecessary shipping costs.
What is the return policy? TOP Our return policy is a very personal one based on each case individually. Each is a case by case basis. Returns for faulty construction are the only ones that are considered valid. I have made every possible effort to ensure that your item was constructed in an acceptable manner and to a high quality standard. If an item does come apart at the seams due to my construction, I will repair the item. However, I ask that you follow the care instruction given to reduce the risk of damage to your item.
